Today we will tour Old Delhi, the 17th-century walled city of Shah Jahanabad, visiting the great Jama Masjid, the main mosque of Old Delhi. Built in 1656 AD by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan, it is the largest and best-known mosque in India. Later, we will walk through Chandni Chowk, the former market of Shah Jahanabad, now a picturesque bazaar, to reach the Red Fort, built in 1648 by Shah Jahan. In New Delhi, we will visit Raj Ghat, a memorial to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. It is a simple black marble platform that marks the site of his cremation on January 31, 1948. Later, we will pass by India Gate, a memorial built in 1931 to commemorate the Indian soldiers who died in World War I and the Afghan Wars. The names of the soldiers who died in these wars are inscribed on the walls. Parliament House, the official residence of the President of India, built in 1931. Until 1950, it was known as Viceroy's House and served as the residence of the Governor-General of British India. We will also visit Humayun's Tomb, a memorial to the Mughal emperor Humayun, built in 1562. The complex is a World Heritage Site and the earliest example of Mughal architecture in India. Qutub Minar, built in 1206 by Qutub-ud-din Aibek, is the tallest brick minaret in the world (72 m), an important example of Indo-Islamic architecture. Qutub Minar and its monuments are listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
In the morning, after breakfast, we will check out of our Delhi hotel and transfer to Jaipur, where we will drop you off at the Delhi airport.
In the morning, after breakfast, we will take an excursion to Amber Fort, the still-standing palace complex begun under the reign of Raja Man Singh. We will take an elephant ride (on our own) to reach the hilltop fort—an overwhelming experience. Later, we will visit the City Palace, a perfect blend of Rajasthani and Mughal architecture. The centerpiece of the palace is a seven-story building called Chandra Palace, offering beautiful views of the gardens and the city. We will also visit the Jantar Mantar (Solar Observatory), an astronomical treasure, with solar-powered devices that provide accurate predictions to this day. We will also visit the Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds), a five-story structure made of pink sandstone. It was built in 1799 so that veiled royal women could gaze down upon the busy street market without the world seeing through its 593 stone jharokas (mini-windows). We will also visit the Jal Mahal. We will spend the night in Jaipur.
In the morning, depart for Jaipur. En route, visit Fatehpur Sikri, built southeast of an artificial lake on the sloping outcrops of the Vindhyan mountain ranges. Known as the City of Victory, it was named capital by the Mughal Emperor Akbar. Upon arrival, visit the Taj Mahal. Overnight in Agra.
This morning, after breakfast, you will board your pre-booked train to Jhansi. After a short drive, you will arrive in Jhansi and from there transfer to Orchha by car. Today, you will visit Orchha Fort: As the capital of the Bundela dynasty from 1531 to 1783 AD, Orchha's monuments, gardens, temples, and murals represent a remarkable evolution in urban planning, settlement fortification, buildings, garden design, and art. Overnight in Orchha.
Today we will head to Khajuraho, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1986. Khajuraho is home to the largest group of medieval Hindu and Jain temples in the country, famous for their erotic sculptures. Visit to the Khjuraho temple. Overnight stay.
Today you will take the train to Varanasi. Upon arrival, our representative will meet you and transfer you to your pre-booked hotel for the night.
Wake up early with breakfast and begin sightseeing tours of one of the holiest places on Earth, Varanasi. Visit the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, Annapurna Devi, Vishalakshi Devi, Durga Kund, Manas Temple, and Birla Temple. Next, take a guided tour of the new Kashi Vishwanath Temple (BHU), also called Birla Temple, and the Durga Temple. Return to your hotel and spend the night.
Today, enjoy a sunrise boat ride on the Ganges and return to the hotel for breakfast and check-out to catch your train to Delhi. Upon arrival in Delhi, check in to your hotel.
