Itinerary

Pickup from Kathmandu International Airport and transfer to your hotel. The rest of the day is free to explore the Thamel area. In the afternoon, trekking gear will be prepared, final details of the itinerary, permits will be provided, and a welcome dinner will be provided. Overnight at your hotel.

Extra day to use in case of flight cancellation to Lukla or for transfer to Ramechapp. For the past three years, flights to Lukla have been operated from the secondary airport in Ramechapp instead of the main airport in Kathmandu. The trip to Ramechapp takes between 5 and 6 hours and is, in itself, an immersive experience in the heart of Nepal, the first step toward adventure in the Himalayas.

Very early in the morning, almost at dawn, we traveled to Ramechapp Airport for a 25-minute plane flight to Lukla (2,840 m). Lukla is a beautiful Sherpa village and also the gateway to the Everest region. The views of the Himalayas during the flight are breathtaking. Landing on the narrow, short runway at Lukla Airport makes the experience unique.

We continue our trek through a less-traveled area, where the trail is varied, with steep sections both uphill and downhill. Puiya and Panggom are villages inhabited primarily by the Sherpa and Rai communities, known for their hospitality. The trail runs through a beautiful forest. After about 5.6 hours of walking, we reach our destination, where we spend the night in a lodge.

As we continue, the views begin to open up towards the peaks of the Himalayas.
The village of Ramailo Danda, in particular, is known for offering stunning panoramas of snow-capped peaks (if the weather is clear). Along the way, dense forests provide a sense of isolation and connection with nature, as well as occasional views of agricultural terraces and deep valleys. The name Ramailo Danda roughly translates as Beautiful Ridge, and it lives up to its name with spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. After about 4.5 hours of hiking, we reached our destination and spent the night at the lodge.

Today's trek, between Ramailo Danda and Chatra Khola, typically takes between 4 and 5 hours, depending on pace and terrain conditions. The route includes moderate ascents and descents, with a focus on descending toward Chatra Khola, which is at a lower altitude compared to Ramailo Danda. Chatra Khola is a small riverside settlement with basic accommodations and a few teahouses. The place offers a peaceful atmosphere, surrounded by dense jungle and the soothing sound of running water. Overnight at a lodge.

After breakfast, we set off. It's a very similar day to the previous one, and we estimate a 3.4-hour hike to the village of Khote. The path runs through heathery hillsides with the Hinku River on the right. The surrounding forests are extremely beautiful. After a couple of hours of hiking, the trail joins the main one, which comes from Lukla, and from there, it's easy to get lost.

Gradually, the forest gives way to the open valley, revealing the surrounding peaks. Throughout the hike, we enjoy fantastic views of the south face of Mera Peak and the small villages in the valley. Along the way, we can see a small gompa on a rock face, containing some beautiful Buddha statues.

Acclimatization/rest day in Thangnak. Overnight in Thangnak.

Today, our trail climbs along the lateral moraine of the Dig Glacier, offering good views of the Hinku Nup Glacier and the surrounding mountains. The village of Khare is the last point of the trek before beginning the ascent of Mera Peak. The hike takes approximately 4 hours. Overnight at a lodge.

Acclimatization day, during which we can rest and enjoy the surrounding landscape. We recommend spending two nights in Khare rather than one night in a tent at base camp. The elevation gain is very slight, and it's certainly better to rest in a bed. To properly acclimatize, we recommend taking acclimatization hikes. There are several routes from the village, one of which ascends to the Mera Pass, at 5,400 m (passing through base camp). The round trip takes about five hours. On one day, the guide teaches us how to use technical equipment and how to navigate on snow/ice. Overnight stays in Khare at a lodge.

Today we climb to the high camp, we do it via the glacier, a long ascent, but with a gentle slope, until we reach the location of the high camp at 5,800 m.
The view from the camp offers spectacular views of the world's most iconic peaks, such as Ama Dablam, Pumori, Everest, Makalu, Nuptse, Cho Oyu, Baruntse, and Chamlang. This panorama is considered one of the best in Nepal. It took us about 6.7 hours to arrive. We spent the rest of the afternoon resting. Overnight in tents.

We woke up early in the morning to start hiking early and try to reach the summit after dawn. The ascent to Mera Peak is one of the easiest climbs to a 6,000-meter peak. It's ascended via the glacier. There are no technical sections. It's a fairly gradual climb with gradients of about 20-25°. Near the summit, the gradient steepens, reaching around 30°, and eventually requires a fixed rope.
Once at the summit, we can enjoy some of the most beautiful views of the Himalayas. Among them are: Cho Oyu, Ama Dablam, Everest, Nuptse, the south face of Lhotse, Lhotse Shar, Baruntse, Makalu, Chamlang, Kangchengjunga, and more. The return journey follows the same route, paying close attention. The descents are always tough. We descend directly to Khare, where we spend the night in a lodge.

Extra day for summit ascent. If the day isn't used, the descent to Kothe can be done in two easy days. Day one, from Khare to Thagnak, and day two, from Thagnak to Kothe. Overnight in tents/lodge.

The return journey follows the same route. We descend to Thagnak, where we have lunch, and then continue down the Hinku Dranka Valley along the same path to the village of Kothe, where we spend the night in a lodge. The hike lasts approximately 6.7 hours. Overnight in a lodge.

We continue our return along a different path than the one we took uphill and spend the night in the village of Thuli Kharka. The hike is approximately 5 hours long. Overnight stay at a hostel.

Today is the last day of trekking, and we continue our descent to the village of Lukla, known as the gateway to Everest. But before descending, we must cross the Zatrawa High Pass (4,610 m). From there, it's only downhill. The afternoon is free to explore the village and celebrate with our expedition companions after reaching Mera Peak. Overnight at a hostel in Lukla.

Today we bid farewell to the Khumbu Valley. We board our small plane, which takes us back to Ramechapp Airport in just 25 minutes. Then we continue our journey to Kathmandu. Transfer to the hotel, check-in, and free afternoon. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Free day for unforeseen events such as altitude sickness, Lukla-Kathmandu flight cancellations, last-minute shopping, or just relaxing.

After breakfast at the hotel, depart for the airport or connect with another tour.
